First off, sorry. It has been a long long time. And I'm sure plenty of people out there were biting their toe nails in anticipation for my next post. I've been a bit busy, and haven't done too much that needed to be put up and out there on the world wide web. But, no I'm back, and your feet can rest easy.
So, I started my first week of school last week (very exciting). I have the most fun (and packed) schedule this semester. Let's see, I have; aerobics, survey of jazz, theatre backgrounds from 500bc to 1642, music of the world's people, business of acting, and acting III. I know, I'm nuts for having 16 units, but I'm a bit over due for my ba, so I decided to put my butt in gear!
Aerobics came as a bit of a shock.... my teacher isn't a aging Jane Fonda type that I had expected, but a stocky, no-bullshit GUY, who says he teaches the class as if we're in boot camp. So, right off, I know that will be good times.
After bootcamp, I ran off to the survey of jazz. My teacher is a saxophone player, who emanates all that I think of as jazz. We started off class listening to a 12 minute Miles Davis song, in which my teacher was barely awake. Later he explained that he'd never had a nine o'clock class, and rather then sleep through it he thought it best to not sleep at all. As the class continued, he started pacing back and forth in front of the class lecturing on various artists. "Don't take notes," he informed us, "just listen to the words."
After my jazzy jazz class, it was time for theatre backgrounds. We talked about the birth of theatre through ritual sacrifice. I was blown away by the teacher and the vast knowledge which dwelled inside her tiny little frame. I'm a SO excited about this class. If only I could take notes as fast as she talks! I might just have to sneak in a recording device!
Then I brake. Grab a bite, catch up on reading. Then music of the world's people. Good teacher, another sax jazz player. He just got back from a sabbatical in the south of Spain (rough life!). This class is similar to jazz. We listen to music, and stories about the artists. Man, I love sfsu and their crazy ideas about GE's!!!!!
That's my Mon. and Wed. classes. On my days away from school, I do my business of acting, in my pajamas on my computer!!! Yep, it's on online course, fancy huh?
Then, on Friday I have my acting III class. It blows my mind. First off, it's great because there are 12 of us, and it's a 5 hour class. And then, it's a completely backwards style then anything I've ever studies in my life. I learned inside out, and my teacher who's from England, is all about he outside in. Those of you who don't know what I'm talking about imagine fixing up an old junk of a car. In my training, we'd fix the inside first, the engine, and all the other stuff that's on the inside of the car, and move out as we worked. Well, this is the opposite. It'd be like painting the car and that type before the engine. Both are valid methods, but totally different. I'm scared and excited about the class. It's just so foreign to me. Plus, my teacher is really nice. And not that that's bad....but it's pretty damn different then what I'm used to.
