So this is a long time coming. I saw this movie last Friday, the last movie we saw at Sundance and it's been some time to get it up. For my defense, school, work, and travel tended to get in the way a bit. Anyway, on to the movie....
When I read the description of the film, "Don't Come Knocking," and then learned that it was written and starred one of my favorites, Sam Shepard, I knew I had to see it. Then to add to it, it sounded like something completely different from what I've come to expect from Sam Shepard's writing. After a few moments of watching the movie, however, I came to realize that who ever had written that blurb had to have been on serious mind altering drugs, because it was nothing like or about what they claimed it to be, and just happened to be right there with all of Sam Shepard's other work. Abandoned children, dead beat dad's, not knowing who your dad is. It was all there.
Regardless of all this though, I did enjoy the film. It's beautiful and funny and very well written, but the nature of the movie is slow, so it may not be for everyone. I don't know if it's been picked up, but with the big names attached to it, I find it hard to believe that it won't be.
